Close Game in 35 Blue Division

hockey-skate-iceTwo of the top teams in the 35 Blue Division squared off yesterday at the University of Ottawa Sports Complex. With both teams coming into the game after some recent success, it was expected that this would be a close match-up.

The game started off fast with Gamblers player #7 Marc Mauviel finding the back of the net after receiving a pass from #66 Mario Paulo. Six Dollar Men were quick to answer as #4 John O’Neil answered with his own goal assisted by #88 Frank Santostefano.

The two teams went on the exchange goals in the second period but #7 Mauviel scored again with 6:11 remaining in the game to put his team ahead by one.

With 1:11 remaining, the Gamblers took an interference penalty to give the Six Dollar Men a powerplay opportunity to try to tie the game. With 38 seconds remaining in the match, Six Dollar Men #6 Ken Morrison scored the game-tying goal.

However, this was not it.

With 11 seconds to go, Six Dollar Men took their own interference penalty resulting in a Gamblers powerplay and a face-off in the Six Dollar Men zone. Right on cue, #7 Marc Mauviel put home his third goal of the game with only 3 seconds remaining to secure the victory for the Gamblers.

The win put the Gamblers in a first place tie with the Silverkings, a team that they will face on Saturday, Nov. 26th. To view the updated 35 Blue standings, please click here.
